Why is Australia so big?
Australia has been a major centre for the video game industry since the early 1990s, when the first games launched.
Australia has always had a strong gaming culture and it has always been the hub of the industry, with games coming out every couple of years.
The Australian Games Industry Association (AGIA) was formed in 1991, with the aim of providing the financial support and knowledge to support the industry.
The AGIA was established to support game developers and manufacturers by helping them attract investors, and to support them in setting up and running their businesses.

The industry is heavily reliant on overseas investors.
Games are produced in the UK, France, China, India, Germany, Canada, Brazil, the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Australia, and many other countries.
In the past, the industry has struggled to find financial stability as the financial downturn has hit Australian game publishers and distributors hard.
In the wake of the economic crisis in the US, Australia saw its AAA game releases drop by more than 50 per cent, while the games in the Top 10 were all down by 20 per cent.
With the industry in such disarray, the AGIA is currently in talks with industry stakeholders to set up a new fund to support developers and game companies.
It is hoped that the fund will be able to provide the financial stability for the industry to continue.
Who are the game developers?
The game industry is largely run by independent game developers, with some companies being managed by outside investors.
There are over 60 games and more than 40,000 developers working in the industry and the game industry’s revenue is estimated to be around $3.7 billion annually.
The games companies themselves make up around 5 per cent of the total revenue, with developers earning up to $600,000 a year.
In Australia, the game industries biggest market, the gaming industry is highly fragmented.
There are only seven major game publishers, and the rest of the games that are produced are produced by independent developers.
The games companies are mostly owned by foreign-based companies with the Australian games market accounting for about 30 per cent and the international market accounting of 30 per a cent of revenue.
Many of the companies in Australia are run by individuals who are based overseas, but some are family owned, with a few being incorporated overseas.
Some of the major Australian game companies include Electronic Arts, Nintendo, Capcom, and Activision.
What is the difference between a AAA game and a mobile game?
A AAA game is a commercial game developed for mobile devices and is often marketed as a new title or a free download.
A mobile game is also a commercial title, but it is usually developed for a specific platform such as a smartphone, tablet or other tablet device.
For example, Hearthstone is a mobile title for Android and iOS, and is also available on both iOS and Android devices.
While many people think of mobile as a ‘free’ app, it is actually quite a big industry in Australia where mobile games are often developed with an estimated 30 per one per cent involvement from an independent developer.
The major mobile game companies are also involved in licensing and marketing of the game for other platforms.
Some games, such as Overwatch, have a very specific monetisation model and have developed a large and dedicated following.
Others, such like League of Legends, are more free-to-play, and are often marketed towards the casual player.
Games can also be developed by mobile companies and licensed to a range of devices.
Many mobile games require an app, and require the user to log in and download it, which can be difficult for those who do not have a broadband connection.
Mobile games have a smaller audience compared to the PC or console games industry, which accounts for approximately 20 per one cent of all Australian games.
This is in stark contrast to games that come from console publishers, which account for about 80 per cent in terms of audience.
While the mobile games industry has a smaller player base compared to consoles and PC games, the mobile gaming industry can be seen as the gateway to the next generation of games, which will be more successful.
